How a Temporary Buydown Works

The buydown is paid upfront—typically by the seller or builder—and deposited into an escrow account. Each month, a portion of those funds is applied toward the mortgage payment, reducing the amount the borrower pays during the buydown period.

These estimates include principal and interest, plus any property taxes, homeowners insurance, mortgage insurance and HOA dues entered above. For comparison purposes, these additional expenses are held constant; actual amounts may change.
